Angela LeBlanc-Ernest created this video as an installation for the Free Library of Philadelphia's Comrade Sisters exhibit (March 22 - April 27, 2023). The exhibit opened the day the Free Library hosted a Comrade Sisters: Women of the Black Panther Party Book Tour event. The video supplements the exhibit as a "now" component for visitors to see the women as they are today, after exploring the many images on display that show women of the BPP "then," during the 1960s and 1970s. The video builds on LeBlanc-Ernest's December 2022 Comrade Sisters Instagram campaign (@bppwomen).
The 12 page Comrade Sisters Women of the BPP Discussion and Resource Guide is written by Angela D. LeBlanc-Ernest and is intended as a companion project to the Comrade Sisters photojournal book or as a stand-alone publication to learn more about BPP history. Comrade Sisters the book is a combination of photography and excerpts of BPP womens’ oral narratives; the study guide provides creative and non-traditional ideas for exploring the content and spirit of the images and text.
